Boys and Girls Club Volunteer

This semester I have had the pleasure of volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lee County: Auburn Unit. The Boys & Girls Club is an after school youth development program that serves youth ages six to eighteen in Greater Lee County during the hours of 2:30 - 6:30 pm. The Boys and Girls Club chooses these hours because the after school hours of 3-6 pm have been recognized as the most dangerous time for kids. Through volunteering at this powerful establishment, I learned that The Boys & Girls Club provides a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, life-enhancing programs and character development experiences, hope, and opportunity.

I learned  that I greatly desire and enjoy working for an organization that works hard to maintain a standard of excellence. In all aspects of programming and events Boys and Girls Clubs strive for perfection so that the kids can reap the benefits from all the people, programs & events. The whole experience of volunteering at the Club has impacted my life! I made new friends and created wonderful relationships with the staff and children.  The Boys & Girls Club offers so many opportunities for growth.  You not only develop one-on-one relationships with the children, but you can work behind the scenes too. I was always looked forward to volunteering at the Club!

Vacation Bible School Leader

Ever since the summer of 2006, I have been involved in my church's vacation bible school. By being a VBS leader, I provided leadership and supervision skills to preschool and elemetry school age children while also taching lessons and participating in various crafts. I was also able to demostrate that learning can be fun. Over the years vacation bible school has taught me how to be able to adapt quickly to diffrent situations while also teaching me how to be patience and understanding with a large group of children.

Dance Teacher

When I was in middle school I started being an assistant for dance classes at the dance studio where I danced. I was an assistant for six consecutive years. Throughout those six years I taught mutliple childred with ages raning from 2 to 9 years old. During those years I found myself constantly recognizing and cultivating the potential in all of my students, as most teachers would.  I also felt that I was in these children’s lives for a reason and I knew that I had to show them love and compassion that they could learn to use themselves. I wanted to leave positive mark in these children's lives that they could then take out and impart on others.
